Charlyn LIN
Artistic Director, Principal
Charlyn Lin is the Founder, Artistic Director and Principal of Barreworks Ballet and has more than 20 years of teaching experience.
Charlyn was a pioneer professional dancer with The Human Expression Dance Company (T.H.E Dance Company) — Singapore's leading contemporary dance company, founded in 2008 by Cultural Medallion recipient Kuik Swee Boon. Her repertoire with T.H.E includes Kuik Swee Boon's "Old Sounds", "Silence", "Water Bloom", "Within. Without", and "The Man In The Center", alongside "Void" by acclaimed Indonesian choreographer Boi Sakti and "Where The Wind Blows" by Zhang Xiao Xiong. She performed across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Poland, Paris, Dubai and China — bringing Singaporean contemporary dance to stages on four continents.
Charlyn was a recipient of the Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship, and is a qualified ballet instructor registered with the Royal Academy of Dance, London. She has shaped young dancers at Singapore Chinese Girls' School, Cheng Ballet Academy and Singapore Ballet Academy, and has served as resident trainer and guest teacher for The Royal Dance Off (TRDO) and T.H.E Second Company — both of which remain one of the leading platforms for contemporary dance in Singapore today.
Since founding Barreworks in 2017, Charlyn has built it into an exclusive boutique ballet studio in Singapore, often known for producing dancers who consistently score well in RAD examinations, place at international competitions, and receive scholarships. Some of her students have also been offered summer intensive placements to international institutions such as San Francisco Ballet School, The Royal Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, and Central School of Ballet. Under her direction, Barreworks is now frequently considered one of Singapore's more established ballet schools.
Charlyn's teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that dance is more than choreography. She continues to lead a team of enthusiastic dancers, carrying forward a vision of ballet that is technically rigorous, and artistically open.

Ballet Instrutor
Serene SEAH
Serene is a ballet educator with over 16 years of teaching experience, working with students from young beginners to adults. She began her own training at the age of seven and went on to graduate from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance). A Registered Teacher with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD), she holds the RAD Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and the CSTD Teaching Certificate in Classical Ballet, she is familiar with both the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) and CSTD (Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabi.
She specialises in building strong technical foundations while nurturing musicality, artistry, and confidence. Known for her patient and structured approach, Serene creates a supportive environment where students are encouraged to grow and develop a genuine love for dance.

Huey Li LEOW
Ms. Leow Huey Li, a certified RAD ballet instructor and a certified Pilates instructor accredited by the International Teacher Training Accreditation for Pilates. Also, a 2021 graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a diploma in dance, is a dedicated and accomplished dancer. She has presented Tan Ean Kiam Arts Scholarship in August 2019. Huey Li has achieved RAD Advanced 1 with a distinction and has been awarded as Best Performer Award in Dancer’s Training Programme (DTP) 2016.
Huey Li believes in a holistic approach to dance training, where strength, awareness, and artistry are developed together. By integrating Pilates into her teaching and practice, she empowers students to move safely, confidently, and reach their highest potential.
Ballet Instructor
Phyllis XIE
Phyllis trained in classical ballet at Singapore Ballet Academy from young. Her continued passion for the performing arts prompted her to pursue her Bachelors in Choreography and Dance in the United Kingdom. Since graduating, she has worked with Retina Dance Company, Cod Ensemble, Lila Dance Company, and Jasmin Vardimon Company. Back in Singapore, Phyllis was involved in various choreographic platforms and artiste training programmes within the local dance scene. She has also taught CCA in dance schools and local studios. With years of ballet teaching experience under her belt, Phyllis thoroughly enjoys coaching and training students in technique and performance.
Patient, loving, committed, and hardworking, Phyllis believes that dance can nurture children into creative and independent learners. She hopes to instill passion in her students and educate and inspire the next generation of young dancers in Singapore. She believes that through teaching and encouragement, her students can be the best versions of themselves through dance.

Student Teacher
Luann WONG
Luann began her classical ballet training at the age of 3, completing the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded and vocational syllabi under Ms Charlyn Lin's coaching.
Luann has also trained in Contemporary, Jazz, and Lyrical genres of dance, competing across all genres in solo and group pieces. She has placed Top 12 at the YGP Regionals in both her classical solo and contemporary solo items, and has received scholarships to institutions such as Boston Ballet School, Central School of Ballet, and London Contemporary Dance School. In 2023, she was awarded a Direct Entry Scholarship to the Singapore Ballet’s Ballet Associate Course. Luann also received a direct entry to The Royal Ballet School's Summer Intensive course in 2025.
Jazz Teacher
Melissa NG
Melissa began dancing Ballet at the age of seven and went on to explore other styles of dance such as Jazz, Street Jazz, Hip Hop and Street Choreography. She first studied under the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and has since completed the Graded and Vocational Ballet Examinations till Intermediate. She then furthered her dance training at Broadway Dance Center, New York and graduated from the International Student Visa Program in 2016. Upon her return, Melissa proceeded to complete the Graded Examinations of the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) Modern Jazz (Revised) syllabus till Grade 9. She then pursued her teaching qualifications and is now a Registered Teacher with CSTD, holding both her Teaching Certificate and Teaching Diploma under the Modern Jazz syllabus.
Melissa has been teaching full-time for more than 12 years since graduating from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor of Communication Studies. She has taught dancers from as young as 2.5 years, to students from Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Institutions and enjoys working with students of various age groups and levels both in studio and school settings. She firmly believes in strong bonds and putting in “heart” work in order to continue building dancers with strong dance ethics and a genuine love for movement.
